SCHOOL NURSE

The school nurse plays a vital role in the early childhood sector supporting the development, education, health and wellbeing of all our students, staff and families.

Responsibilities of the nurse in our school:

  • Health care
    Providing care for students with ongoing medical conditions. Provides first aid, critical care, and treating injuries and illnesses that occur at school. The nurse also administers medication as required during school hours.
  • Health education
    Teaching students and staff about best practices, and healthy growth.
  • Health promotion
    Supporting schools in creating an environment that promotes good health and wellbeing.
  • Advocacy
    Advocating for students and families, and helping them access community resources.
  • Health care planning
    Supporting development of and administering care plans for students with ongoing conditions, including anaphylaxis, asthma and diabetic care plans.
  • Collaboration
    Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other medical professionals.
  • Support
    Providing mental health and wellbeing support along with the social worker.
  • Emergency response
    Responding to emergencies that occur at school.
