Dear Parents and Carers

Congratulations to our Year 6 students and their families on their Graduation this morning.  It has been pleasing to see the growth these students have made this year.  We wish them well for high school and thank them for their contributions to our school.

All students in Year 6, in 2026 will be involved in levels of student leadership across the school. Student leaders as elected by their peers and staff were announced this morning.  Congratulations to Salma Aliny, William Plichta, Charlie Robertson, and Joel Wintle.   Other captains will be determined early next year, and all students will be involved in ministries.

As with the student leaders this year, the commitment of these new leaders is to leave their role in a better position than when they received it. To respect what the leader before them has done and then develop and improve this role for the next leader.

Last Friday, the Year 6s presented their final assembly. Thank you to Mrs D’Adamo, Mr D’Adamo, Mrs McGinley, Mrs Lihou, Mrs Staley, and Mr Carter for assisting to prepare the students so well.  Thank you also to families for all your support.

Well done to our Year 5 Peer Mediators who celebrated their service to our student community on Monday this week.  A significant number of our Year 5 students volunteered to be Peer Mediators over the year which is an excellent commitment.  Our Peer Mediators support students at lunch time to problem solve, develop friendships, and to play constructively.  This is a great example of students living our school values.

The calendar for next year is on our website under the tab “WCPS Families”. Please note that the pupil free days and sacramental dates for 2026 is also listed here. School starts next year for students on Monday 2^nd February and students will need to be in summer uniform.  The transition period for the new uniform is now completed so old design uniforms are no longer acceptable elements of the uniform.  There will be a final collection of these old uniforms organised early in Term 1 next year so that we can send them to support vulnerable communities.

Reports will be available on SEQTA on Friday afternoon. When discussing and sharing these with your child, celebrate some strengths and growth and identify an area of focus for 2026.  Please acknowledge the effort you child has put into each area not focusing on simply the grade.

Students found out their classes on Monday as part of the transition process.  Whilst we have attempted to satisfy genuine parent/carer requests, it is impossible to accommodate all of them.  Staff have worked hard to create balanced classes and place children in the class in which they are most suited.  We have considered student friendship groups, challenges that students may face, student combinations that will allow students to grow academically and socially and parent requests. Sometimes parents have asked for students to be separated from a particular child due to past social issues and sometimes this is the best course of action in the short term, however for students to develop their social skills and their ability to work with all people, as would be expected in high school and in the work place, it is important that students work through these differences in a supportive environment.  What can also occur is that a parent may request that a child is with a particular child and the parent of the other child may request that they are not together.  This is a somewhat interesting circumstance.  It is important that you are positive about your child’s class placement to give your child the best opportunity to learn and to succeed in achieving the school values of:

Trust | “We build strong and cooperative relationships” and

Community | “We are inclusive and foster a sense of belonging”.
