Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Message From The Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated every year on August 15th. This feast commemorates the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her assumption, body and soul, into Heaven. It is the most important Marian feast, and it is also a Holy Day of Obligation. Our Year 1 – 6 students joined parishioners at last Friday morning’s mass. Thank you to parents and carers who joined us.
This term, many students are involved in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. This is an opportunity to perform in a variety of arts, to showcase various talents and to appreciate the talents of others. A number of soloists, and dance groups have already experienced some performances, and the choir will also be performing at One Big Voice. Thank you to Mrs D’Adamo and Mrs Chapman for their dedication to ensure the students are at their best and to the many staff and families for their support.
Wearing our school uniform correctly helps students develop the school value of Excellence – We demonstrate pride in ourselves, each other, family, and school. The uniform policy is available on the school website. Please ensure hair styles adhere to the following elements of the policy:
- Hair longer than the collar is to be tied back, clean, brushed and kept off the face.
- Hair must be a natural colour only, with extreme hair colours and styles not acceptable. This also includes lines and patterns in hairstyles.
The Book Week dress-up parade is on Friday 28th August. This is an exciting time for our students, but also one which can cause stress and anxiety in our busy lifestyles. The idea of the dress-up is for children to dress as a book character so that they can emphasise joy in reading and highlight how reading is an important part of their lives. It is not a time to purchase the best costume or to lose sleep over what your child will wear. A simple costume that helps your child think about the enjoyment of books and reading is the best course of action. Many thanks to Mrs Gee for her efforts in promoting a love of reading at our school and for organising the book week activities.
On the 29th and 30th August, our Year 4 students will be making the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. As a Catholic community, please keep these students and those who have assisted in preparing them including families, parish members and staff in your thoughts and prayers. This is a very special moment in the faith journey of our students as they make the second sacrament of initiation.
As a school, we encourage our students to play as this significantly promotes and supports child development. It is important, however that students are not playing on equipment or in the grounds before or after school unless participating in an organised activity. For student safety, students must move directly to pick up areas so they can be supervised appropriately. It may seem harmless to have a game with your child on the way out, but this can encourage other students to join who may not have a carer on site. We appreciate your support with this.
Imagine you are building a house, and the brick layer has a day off from site every week, even worse they take two days off every week or even more…. How much longer will it now take to build your house? This applies to student attendance… some students may be absent for one day per week which equates to an 80% attendance rate or two days per week which equates to a 60% attendance rate. How much longer will it take these students to grasp school routines, grow and enhance their learning? To participate fully in the school program, it is crucial that attendance is maintained at close to 100%. We understand that if children are unwell, they will need to stay home and get well but it is unfair to expect growth from children if they are not present to further develop their skills. Attendance reports will soon be sent to families providing your child’s percentage of attendance. The aim is for your child’s attendance rate to be at between 90 and 100%.
Well done to the Whitty Dads for running a successful ten pin bowling afternoon last weekend. The Fathers’ and Grandfathers’ Breakfast will be taking place on Friday 4th September. All dads, grandads and father figures are invited. Please save the date.
Best wishes and God Bless

Bullying No Way Week!
Bullying No Way week is Australia’s leading initiative for bullying prevention in schools. It is an opportunity for schools to foster a shared understanding of bullying behaviours and highlight strategies for prevention.
This national week of action is running from 17th to 21st August to unite schools and their communities across Australia to work together to inspire practical solutions to prevent bullying.
This year’s theme, Small Acts Big Impact, reminds us that actions do not need to be big to change someone’s world. Small actions, like including someone, speaking up or showing kindness, can create meaningful change. Lasting change happens when schools build a culture that supports kindness and respect. Evan small, intentional acts of kindness have a powerful ripple effect, building inclusivity and wellbeing.
In our school community our goal is to build an environment where everyone belongs, diversity is celebrated and bullying is never accepted. During Bullying No Way week, we encourage everyone within our community to engage in small acts that can have a big impact against bullying. Consider your words and actions, no matter how small, and be proud to be kind, support someone and speak up against bullying.
Bullying is everyone’s responsibility and small acts can make a real difference.
PARENT SURVEY: CONSENT AND RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS EDUCATION
As part of Catholic Education Western Australia’s ongoing commitment to supporting schools in the delivery of Consent and Respectful Relationships Education (CRRE), CEWA is seeking feedback from parents and carers about their information and support needs in this area.
The survey will:
• Gather information about parents’ current understanding of consent and respectful relationships education.
• Identify topics parents would value further information or support with.
• Inform the development of future parent-facing resources and engagement opportunities.
• Support CEWA and schools to strengthen partnerships with families around student wellbeing and healthy relationships.
The survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete and responses are anonymous.
Exciting Update for our Early Years’ Uniform – 2027
As part of an exciting new chapter for our Early Years’, our Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten Co-Horts will be introduced to new branding from 2027. This updated branding will also feature on the Early Years’ uniform range and our School Values.
To support families during this transition, the current uniform will remain acceptable throughout 2027. This means children may still wear either the current or new style of t-shirt during the 2027 school year.
Please note, that from the beginning of 2028, all Pre-Kindy and Kindy students will be required to wear the new uniform style.
To assist families with this change:
- The new style uniform will be available to purchase from Tara Uniforms from December 2026
- Existing uniforms will be available to purchase through the Admin Office at a clearance price of 3 shirts for $30 *While stocks last*

Ken's Club
Over the past couple of years, Ken White has been generously offering his time to support our Year 4 students with their times tables. We’re now excited to grow this wonderful initiative and invite WCPS Grandparents to join Ken’s Club 2026 – helping students build confidence and master their times tables!
If you would like to be part of this rewarding program, please email your expression of interest to: admin@wcps.wa.edu.au
Parking & Drive-Through
Please note, Marmion Avenue is not a designated drop-off/pick-up zone. Stopping or collecting students in this area places children, families, and drivers at significant risk.
- The front car park
- Barradine Drive
- Culwalla Close (via the underpass)
We also ask families to take extra care when parking and manoeuvring in surrounding streets and in the Basketball Courts. We understand that pick-up time can be very busy, and we appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing safe practices. The safety of our school community is our highest priority.
CEWA Announcement | Three-week Mid-Year Break
Catholic Education WA (CEWA) has announced it intends to implement a three-week mid-year break across its 150 schools from the 2027 academic year. The implementation of this initiative will not only bring our school in line with practices at other Independent Catholic Schools but is based on significant research into how the change will positively impact teaching, learning, and wellbeing. I want to stress that there won’t be any changes to the hours of instruction your child receives as a result of this initiative, however small adjustments to individual term calendars and school timetables may be required. Please see the link below for frequently asked questions regarding the implementation of the three-week break.
