Holiday Prayer

Lord, bless each member of our families.

As we begin our holidays, watch over us and protect us.

Grant us your wisdom, your grace

and the strength to live lives of goodness.

Help us to honour each other with words of respect,

forgiveness and love.

To listen with the heart as well as the head.

To give and not count the cost.

To be patient and persevering when all seems lost.

Bless my family, Lord, each one of us this day.

Bless and protect us.

Amen

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

The Arts Showcase comprising Junior dance and Senior Music took place last week. We are very grateful to our Dance Teacher, Mrs D’Adamo and Music Teacher, Mrs Chapman for providing our students with this experience and for the remarkable effort, care and time that goes into this.  It provides students with opportunities to develop an appreciation for the arts, try new things, grow an awareness of movement, rhythm, and collaboration, and develop their confidence.  Research conducted by the University of Sydney and the Australian Council for the Arts found that students involved in the arts have higher school motivation, engagement in class, self-esteem and life satisfaction. The study shows that the arts can impact broader academic and personal wellbeing outcomes for young people.  This is one of the many opportunities at WCPS for the students to shine. Thank you to parents and staff who supported and to the manty families who attended.

On Friday 19th June, our Interschool Cross Country team competed at Mawson Park.  It was a pleasure to attend. The students demonstrated excellent behaviour and sportsmanship and were a credit to themselves, their families and their school. Thank you to staff and families who attended to support on the day and who assisted with training. Many thanks to Mrs Richards for coordinating this event for our school and for all her efforts as a key part of the organising team.

NAIDOC Week occurs over the school holidays from 5th July to 12th July. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of First Nations peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in First Nations communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.  The theme for 2026 is “50 Years of Deadly”. More information is available on the following website: https://www.naidoc.org.au/

Student reports will be available at the end of this week on SEQTA.  The report is a summary of your child’s progress against the achievement standards that relate to the content that was covered in Semester One. The report will help you have a conversation with your child regarding their achievement, effort, responsibility and attitude towards learning. It will help you celebrate successes and to also determine some areas of focus for Semester Two. It is important that students own their efforts and achievements and that as adults in our children’s lives we ensure that they understand and appreciate they are the most influential person, with family and school support, in determining the results they achieve.

Holidays are a fantastic time to unwind, spend some quality family time together and take a break from the routines of life.  It is also a great time to re-establish some good habits such as reading together as a family. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and helps them to further understand written word across a variety of learning areas.

Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday 21st July.  Please see the calendar on the school website at the following link: https://whitfordcatholicps.wa.edu.au/wcps-families/calendar/

Term 2 concludes on Friday 3rd July. I would like to thank all students, parents, carers, staff, parish and community members for your efforts this term in making Whitford Catholic Primary School the wonderful community that it is.  Thank you for what you do and enjoy the well-earned break from school.

Best wishes and God Bless

2026 CENSUS

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will be conducting the five-yearly national Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

One key question that is optional asks Australians to identify their religion. For Catholics, this question is crucial to helping Catholic parishes, schools, dioceses, and organisations understand their communities.

Please refer to the Media Release from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference encouraging Catholics to identify themselves in the Census.

Exciting Update for our Early Years’ Uniform – 2027

As part of an exciting new chapter for our Early Years’, our Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten Co-Horts will be introduced to new branding from 2027.  This updated branding will also feature on the Early Years’ uniform range and our School Values.

To support families during this transition, the current uniform will remain acceptable throughout 2027.  This means children may still wear either the current or new style of t-shirt during the 2027 school year.

Please note, that from the beginning of 2028, all Pre-Kindy and Kindy students will be required to wear the new uniform style.

To assist families with this change:

  • The new style uniform will be available to purchase from Tara Uniforms from December 2026
  • Existing uniforms will be available to purchase through the Admin Office at a clearance price of 3 shirts for $30 *While stocks last*

SURVEY – CHILDEN’S ACCESS TO PLAY

CEWA has been approached by Dr. Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, Commissioner for Children and
Young People, to participate in a survey to provide insights into how children and young people
across Western Australia experience play in their everyday lives. Broad participation will help
ensure the strategy reflects diverse perspectives across the state.

This will assist in the development of the WA Play Strategy.

We would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this short survey in the below link.

Ken's Club

Over the past couple of years, Ken White has been generously offering his time to support our Year 4 students with their times tables.  We’re now excited to grow this wonderful initiative and invite WCPS Grandparents to join Ken’s Club 2026 –  helping students build confidence and master their times tables!

Parking & Drive-Through

We would like to remind our community the importance of safety during drop-off and pick-up times, particularly in and around the school carpark and nearby streets.

Please note, Marmion Avenue is not a designated drop-off/pick-up zone. Stopping or collecting students in this area places children, families, and drivers at significant risk.

To ensure a safe and orderly pick-up, all parents are asked to use one of the following approved locations:

  • The front car park
  • Barradine Drive
  • Culwalla Close (via the underpass)

These areas are designed to provide a safer environment for student collection and help us maintain smooth traffic flow around the school.

We also ask families to take extra care when parking and manoeuvring in surrounding streets.  We understand that pick-up time can be very busy, and we appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing safe practices. The safety of our school community is our highest priority.

CEWA Announcement | Three-week Mid-Year Break

Catholic Education WA (CEWA) has announced it intends to implement a three-week mid-year break across its 150 schools from the 2027 academic year. The implementation of this initiative will not only bring our school in line with practices at other Independent Catholic Schools but is based on significant research into how the change will positively impact teaching, learning, and wellbeing. I want to stress that there won’t be any changes to the hours of instruction your child receives as a result of this initiative, however small adjustments to individual term calendars and school timetables may be required. Please see the link below for frequently asked questions regarding the implementation of the three-week break.

Please note that, while staff at WCPS take a lot of care to ensure that children who do not have permission to be published do not appear on the school’s social media, this process is undertaken manually and occasionally photos will be missed.

If you notice your child has been published and you would like their photo removed, please contact the school office.
